Biography

Mona Elmikaty is a fourth-year Honours Life Sciences student at McMaster University with a strong interest in pediatric health, child development, and community-centered healthcare. Through her involvement in child health research, she has developed a passion for work that explores how supportive, inclusive, and holistic approaches can improve the wellbeing of children and families. Her academic and research interests include health equity, family-centered care, and the role of community-based supports in shaping healthcare experiences and outcomes for pediatric populations. As a research assistant in the MCARES Lab under the supervision of Dr. Michelle Phoenix, Mona contributes to projects focused on advocacy-driven and community-engaged pediatric research. Her current thesis work explores approaches that connect healthcare with community resources and supports for children and families. She is excited to continue developing her research skills within a collaborative environment that values compassion, inclusivity, and meaningful impact. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career in healthcare working closely with the pediatric community and contributing to initiatives that support children and families both within and beyond clinical settings.
